Cam treads water in the middle of his pool, holding me up. My legs are wrapped around his waist as we talk. Naked talk.

After spreading me out on his table like I was his never-ending dessert and making me come three times, Cam stripped us both naked, picked me up, and jumped into the warm pool.

I have never been more relaxed than I am right now. Sure, all the orgasms helped, but it’s more than that. It’s Cam. I still can’t believe he said he loves me. I’d pinch myself if I could, to make sure this wasn’t a dream.

“Tell me more about work.” Cam pushes a strand of my hair behind my ear. “It sounds like you’re loving it.”

“I am. Doctor Winters is amazing. The patients I’ve been working with are so sweet. Emma is my favorite. I think she’s finally on the upswing. She’s been responding better to her meds and to her daily exercise.” Cam listens as I go on and on about my patient and my hope for her heart transplant.

“I like listening to you talk about work. You’re so passionate about your patients. You make a difference,” he says. “Tell me more.”

This. This is why I’ve fallen for this man. Cam really listens to me. He appreciates my dedication to nursing and supports me. He doesn’t offer fake platitudes or resolutions. He just listens.

And I fall deeper.

I meet his adoring hazel eyes, and I can’t help but kiss him, hard. Our mouths move in wet unison, tongues gliding together. I could kiss him all night. When we break apart, panting, Cam is pressed against the wall, holding onto the ledge.

Cam groans, resting his forehead on mine. “I really hope that’s not what’s going on at work. Coach would be pissed at me for killing doctor McNo-balls for touching my girlfriend.”

My chest tightens. “Girlfriend?” I croak.

“For fuck’s sake, Talia. I told you I think I love you. Of course you’re my girlfriend.”

“Seriously, think?” I roll my eyes at him. I know when he said “think” it was his way of saying how he felt with a safety net.

He didn’t need it. I’m there with him. I love him too.

He smirks at me, eyes full of mischief. “Think,” he says, baiting me.

I love it when Cam’s playful like this—the perfect balance between sweet and sexy, humorous and still serious. He has this way of coaxing me from my shell and getting me to match his mood.

Unlocking my legs from his hips, I swim back. “I think … I’m getting out.” I launch myself back, swimming toward the steps.

“Don’t you dare,” he growls, swimming after me.

Cam dives underwater, disappearing from my view. I push faster, trying to make it out before he reaches me. I yelp as two arms lock around my waist and hoist me out of the water.

“Holy shit. You’re fast,” I pant.

Cam chuckles, not the slightest out of breath. “If I’m not running, I’m swimming at five every morning. Rain or shine.”

I admire how dedicated he is to staying in shape.
